I had the opportunity to test out the new Tamron 150-600 in combination with the RED EPIC (Motion Mount). While shooting with professional surfer Torrey Meister at a beach in Oceanside, the Tamron 150-600 lived up to its hype, even in cloudy conditions. Because of the low light, I shot the video almost in its entirety at F/6 with the focal length ranging from 300-600. Throughout the session, I interchanged the settings on the RED between 5k / 96fps, 4k / 120fps and 2k / 240 fps to provide for a wide array of frames. Considering the low light conditions of the day, I was highly impressed with the results. I currently shoot the majority of my films with a Canon 100-400 and have recently demo'd the new Canon 200-400. However, for the price, weight, and size of the Tamron 150-600, I haven't seen anything else that I’d compare to it. I am super stoked to use this lens while I’m running and gunning around the globe!
